and then when i try the control pannel one i goto control panel, the only catagories i see is apearance and themes, printer and other hardware, network and internet connections, user accounts, add or remove programs, date time language and regional options, sounds speech and audio devices, accesibility options, and performance and maintence. so i goto network and internet connections but when i go there i see 2 connections and i don't know what one ur talking about

Still no luck. I have two ip addresses, I gave them both to a friend, and he said he couldn't get on. The other computer in my house could with the 1 number, but not with the 6 one. I did what you said about changing the thing in preferences to the 6 one. I'll have to wait and see if the backround works. But I still can't get anyone onto my site..... Oh, and I can't access my siteadministration page.

satellite dsl - outsiders can't connect

well i've read through most everything i can find here, and still no solution. i've tried dyndns things, changing the pref file stuff, finding my 'outside' ip and using that, all with no luck. i noitced tho when i open the palace server, it 'listens' to my so called internal ip address and uses that when connecting. i haven't been able to figure out how to change the address it uses there at the start up, but it seems like if i could make it use the one i find with www.whatismyip.com it might work.

under my internet connection, i found my ip address in the TCP/IP thingie 'n then under properties. it's 10.x.xx.81 with a subnet mask... i added the outside ip ifound at the website and was able to connect to the server on my machince through that ip address.. but i had no internet lol. so i'm not sure what to do. any help would be great tho. or if there's any other way to host a palace server that's free... that'd be great too.

one last question... i saw on ehre that you can get a palaceplanet subdomain.. would that solve any of my problems? or would ppl still not be able to connect b/c of my ip conflicts? thanks!

Since you say you have more than one computer, and the other computer can get on the "1 number". I assume it's 192.168.*.* This would most likely mean you're running a router of some kind. If this is the case, there's two things you can do to try and fix this problem. You either need to forward the connections to the Pserver through your router using port-forwarding (best method) or set the computer with the PServer up on a DMZ or De-Militarized Zone (this opens up your computer completely to the Internet). I would check your router documentation for the methods for each. Once the connections are routed or the computer is setup on a DMZ, then that should solve the problem.

As far as the siteadministration page goes, I don't think that option is available anymore since CC went down. I could be wrong.

I'm not entirely sure how a satellite connection works, but you might try the same thing I suggested in my previous post. Check and see if there's some way to forward connections to certain ports. It sounds an awful lot like that would help. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Would need a little more info to try and help. First question would be, do you have a router? If you're seeing 2 connections under network and internet connections, you'll need to find out which High Speed connection is the one being used.

with my satellite connection... it comes in through usb. im not sure how it really works either.. but i do kno that it's sensitive. it kinda works when it wants, with whatever settings it sees fit. the ppl from the company have told me what to put in everywhere before, and it still hasn't worked. it's kind of a check this, unchek that, put some numbers in here and there and hope it works, if not, try a different combo.

basically.. i'm just going to assume there's no way around this and wait for dsl to be aviable in my area. at which point ill buy a router, and rid myself of this networking bs. hopefully then things will work better. thanks anyways.

Really! I know my external IP is 66.36.128.179, but even I can't get on my palace server with THAT IP. How can my visitors? I have really no idea how to fix it. I have a router. I don't understynad, that IP^ should work!
