firewall?

i used to use the palace a while ago on my dads old computer.
hes now got a new one (with windows ME) and i have installed palace on it. unfortunately it wont let me connect to any palace at all.
my dad's computer also has Norton anti-virus installed.
does this or winME have inbuilt firewalls and if yes how do i disable them or allow palace to run with it? i am clueless with computers.
also is it possible that your internet service provider comes with an inbuilt firewall? cos my dad has changed his one of them too.
if its not a firewall i have no idea whats going on...though it probably is a firewall - when i try to connect to practice palace it says i either entered the wrong port number, the server i tried isnt running palace software or there is a firewall and to contact system administrator (i dunno what o­ne of them is
oh yeah and the log window says : Winsock Error: 10051 - ICMP network unreachable Connection Refused
please someone help me.

Well windows ME does not have a build in firewall. Some DSL modems do however, perhaps you are connected through cable or DSL?

Was it just noton anti-virus or norton internet security? Norton internet security comes with it's own firewall.

The other question is: are you sure you tried a working Palace?

that palace was the one i tried but no luck :( not even the instant palace works. oh dear does this mean i will never be able to go on the palace again? :( :(

the norton thing i have is called Norton SystemWorks 2002. and the type of modem i use is one that dials. its not broadband if thats what you mean by dsl...

is there anyway of turning the stupid idiot things off?
