looking for some help // install palace on a linux server

hi all

i even do not know exactly where to start with my questions.

1. i was wrote all manuals i could find
2. i was downloading server software (hope the right one *s*)
3. i have a place on a server from a hosting company (not specific for hosting palaces, but i was asking it should be possible there. shell works, and access to root works also.)
4. my palace is done it works perfectly on my computer.

now my question, is there anyone out there who could help me to bring this thing online?

ah i forgot, of course i've got a static ip and a domain-name too.

i would also pay for the work, it is not the point. but i am not so much used to work with a server on my own.

a friend of mine tried to help i think he installed palace allready on the server but it does not work, means it does not connect if i open up palace and try to reach my server ip. in fact i am trying to install this thing since a view months, but no body could (or wanted *s*) help me until now.

thanks for your answers and help

chris

RE: looking for some help // install palace on a linux serve

Hi Chrissie

So if i get this correctly you

A: want to get your palace working on a host that does not host Palaces but you think it should be possible

B: Also want to get it to work on your home computer?

I guess it depends on how much you are paying for this hosting and who is hosting it.

It is possible to set up a Palace with a shell account you say you have root acces, that will work.

All you really need to do is follow the install instructions in the Server Manual. Then edit the server preferences to put in the right IP and perhaps change the bind port.

The install on Linux is pretty simple, but you need to make sure:
- Are you using Linux?
- Did you upload the entire Linux 4.5 Palace install?
- Did you foloow the instructions in the Linux Palace Server manual?
- Do you know the servers IP?
- Is this perhaps on someones home Linux server?

Perhaps you pay a Palace host instead of someone to try and get it to work on a server that might not be suitable? Its not very safe to pay someone for this it means you r giving them full control of your server and like you said: you have root acces this means they can do everything.

I can help you set it up yourself step by step but you need to make sure you have the right setup for this first:

What type of Linux server
Do you have an IP

RE: looking for some help // install palace on a linux serve

hi maarten

A) yes thats correct
B) it allready works perfectly on my home computer, for quiet a while people could visit my palace on my computer, but now it does not work anymore, no idea why, but sure, i want a fix ip and no people running around day and night on my machine *s*.

as i am from switzerland, i've choosen a swiss firm the hosting is not too cheap and it is here http://www.feelfree.ch/

now, this friend was putting the palace up, and did start the server with this shell account. but, now he told me, he cannot connect to it.

- myself i am not using linux
- yes we were uploading the entire linux 4.5 palace and installing (thats what he told me)
- suppose so, that he was following the instructions, he once had a palace on his own, so he should know whats he is doing
- yes i've got the server ip (a fix one)
- no, its a company, not a home linux server

i know it is not safe, to give somebody his passwords ;-) but there is nothing on this server exept this palace thing until now, and i am choosing well ;-)

the type is fedora core
and yes i have an ip
